We have no reason to trust Theresa May on Brexit. As Home Secretary, she was an enthusiastic implementor of the EU’s legal measures, e.g. the European Investigation Order, and the permanent adoption of the 35 legal instruments under the Lisbon Treaty (including the European Arrest Warrant) – all of which she could have vetoed and chose not to. I wrote to her on these subjects asking her to oppose them – she would not.
Why should we trust her now? She has already said that her Government ‘will not be invoking Article 50 anytime soon’, and that ‘we cannot do so until the Scottish Government is happy with the terms of Brexit.’
I have already pointed out that we can leave by repealing the European Communities Act (1972) and then gradually repealing all the EU Directives implemented by Acts of Parliament gradually thereafter. That way we are in control of the process and not the EU.
And if Scotland so much wants to stay in the EU then let them have another referendum on membership of the UK. If they want to leave then let them do so and apply to join the EU in their own right.
We need the FULL ENGLISH (and Welsh) BREXIT now without further delay!
